Building Code Officials

We work closely with the U.S. Access-Board, the organization that develops ADA accessibility standards, to ensure the information we provide is accurate and the latest information available. The Great Plains ADA Center has established a working relationship with the Architects Insitute of America (AIA) and has conducted trainings for its members.

ADA 2010 New Standards Effective Dates


The U.S. Department of Justice has adopted new regulations for Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design. The effective and publication dates are listed below.

New standards must be used in all new construction, renovations, and alterations

Note: In the period between the publication date and the full compliance date, (September 15, 2010 and March 15, 2012) covered entities may choose to use either standard, but they must use one or the other in its entirety.
