Center for Universal Design--Evaluates, develops and promotes Universal Design in housing, public and commercial facilities and related products.

Access Board--ADA accessibility guidelines, development of new regulations and guidances.

National Center on Accessibility--Researches, develops and promotes accessible outdoor recreation activities.


Accessible Information & Electronic Technology

Federal Communications Commission--The FCC enforces the Telecommunications Relay System (TRS) mandated by the ADA. The FCC also enforces the Telecommunications Act of 1996 which requires accessible telecommunications equipment and services such as closed captioning.

Information Technology Technical Assistance & Training Center (ITTATC)--The goal of ITTATC is to promote the intent of section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and section 255 of the Telecommunications Act through training, information and technical assistance.

Center for Information Technology Accommodation (CITA). --Maintains the Section 508 website designed to provide education, assistance and resources for federal agencies that are required to provide accessible informaiton technology under Section 508

National Organization on Disability (NOD)--promotes full and equal participation of adults and children with disabilities in American life.

Disability.gov--Provides one-stop access to disability-related resources, services and information available through the federal government.

Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund (DREDF)-- National law and policy center dedicated to protecting and advancing civil rights of people with disabilities.

Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Veteran's service organization and leading advocate for issues relating to spinal cord injuries.

Protection and Advocacy--Source for legal information. P & A agencies are authorized by Congress to provide legal representation and advocacy services to people with disabilities.

World Association of People with Disabilities--Nonpartisan, nonprofit association that advances the interestes of people with disabilities.


Education and Children

NICHCY--National Information Clearing house for children and young adults with disabilities.

The ARC--Organization of and for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.


Employment Issues

Dept. of Labor--Oversees Office of Disability Employment Policy (formerly the President's Commission for Employment of People with Disabilities) Provides numerous publications.

EEOC--Enforcement guidances, court rulings and settlement agreements for Title I under the ADA.

Regional Resources

Region 7 Rehabilitation Continuing Education Program (RCEP7) -- provides training and other services to vocational rehabilitation agencies and counselors in the four states of RSA Region 7 - Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas.

Region 7 Community Rehabilitation Program--Regional Continuing Education Program--serves Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas

Law, Health Policy & Disability Center is an emerging leader in law, technology, education and research, focused on improving the quality of life for pesons living with disabilities. Based at the University of Iowa College of Law, with a satellite office in Washington, D.C., the Center concentrates on public policy and its impact on persons with disabilities, with an emphasis on employment, self-determination and self-sufficieny.

Research and Training Center on Independent Living--Promotes independent living for people with disabilities through research and dissemination of materials and information.


Transportation

Dept. of Transportation--Provides information and regulations for accessible public transportation including airline travel (Federal Air Carriers Access Act)

Project Action--Promotes cooperation between the disability community and transportation industry--source of the National Accessible Traveler's Database.


The Great Plains ADA/IT Center is authorized by the National Institute on Disability & Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) to provide technical assistance, training and materials dissemination related to the Americans with Disabilities Act and Accessible Information Technology to the Great Plains Region.
